Data in this chapt er show the general situation and the development of the const ruction in China. They cover the situation
of product ion and management of the enterprises of construction, including the number of enterp rises , number of
employed persons, gross output value and value added of construction industry, floor space of the buildings, machinery and
equipment, assets and liabilities, total revenue of enterprises, profits and taxes of enterprises, labour productivity, per capita
machinery, etc. They also cover the situation of prospecting and designing institutions and the personnel.

II. St atistical Scope

According t o the development of construction indust ry, starting from 2002, the coverage of const ruction st atis tics has been
adjusted, now they include all t he construction enterprises of various types of ownership wit h qualification criteria with
independent accounting sys tem instead of the original construction enterprises of various types of ownership with
qualification criteria at or above Class 4 with independent accounting system.

III. Source of Data and Survey Methodology

Data on const ruction enterpris es are collected in accordance with the reporting scheme of construction statis tics stipulated
by the National Bureau of Statistics. The annual reports on construction statistics are assigned and collected by statistical
bureaus at various levels through comprehensive reporting system, and provided by s tatistical bureaus of each p rovince,
autonomous region and municip ality.

Data on prospecting and designing institutions and the personnel are p rovided by the Minist ry of Cons truction, on t he
bas is of prospecting and designing st atistical reporting scheme stipulated by the Ministry of Construction.
