Industrial statistics covers all industrial enterprises within the territory (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). Before

above county level with independent accounting system and production units with dependant accounting system, village
industrial enterprise, urban joint industrial enterprises, rural joint industrial enterprise, urban individual industrial enterprises,
and rural industrial enterprises (village industrial enterprises were not included in this part before 1984).

Since 1998, the coverage of industrial statistics was changed from types of ownership to the size of enterprises, they are: all
state-owned industrial enterprises and those non-state industrial enterprises with annual sales over 5 million yuan, and non-
state industrial enterprises with annual sales below 5 million yuan.

Data in this chapter cover the all state-owned industrial enterprises and those non-state-owned industrial enterprises with
annual sales over 5 million yuan. The shortened description is all state-owned industrial enterprises and non-state
enterprises above designated size.

Data by industries in this chapter are based on the 2002 National Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities, and data
by size of enterprises are based on the Preliminary Standards of Enterprises by Size.

The industrial enterprises statistics in this chapter are collected from Year Report of Industrial Statistics, which are provided by
statistical bureaus of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities through Comprehensive Reports to NBS. Statistical
agencies at various levels arrange and collect data through comprehensive reporting system basing of real situation in local
areas.

The table on Production Capacity of Major Industrial Products in this chapter includes 41 main industrial products in 2002. Sources
of data are mainly from departments concerned, guild and corporations, which are main enterprises within the sector.
