CUSTOMS REGULATIONS OF THE P.R.C. GOVERNING CONTROL OVER INWARD AND OUTWARD ARTICLES BROUGHT IN OR POSTED BY OVERSEAS CHINESE STUDENTS AND STUDENTS FROM HONG KONG AND MACAO STUDYING IN MAINLAND CHINA

Article 1. Overseas Chinese students and students from Hong Kong and Macao who intend to study in mainland China for one year or more shall be issued with "Customs Registration Books" (hereinafter referred to as "Books") at the time of entry by the Customs offices at the ports of entry against the school admission notifications or certificates issued by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Department.


Article 2. The students can bring in one of the following of each category of durables duty free for their personal use during their study in China's mainland, namely wrist watches, cameras, 8 mm cinecameras, refrigerators, washing machines, electrical fans, tape recorders, portable radio-cassette recorders, cassette players, typewriters, calculators, TV sets and bicycles. The duty-free durables shall be registered in the Books.


Article 3. If other specified durables which are brought in by the students but not listed in the present Regulations are in reasonable quantities for personal use, they shall be examined and released by the Customs on payment of duties. But cars, video recorders, video cameras and hi-fis are not allowed in.


Article 4. Articles for study and daily use brought in by the students shall be admitted duty free by the Customs if they are in reasonable quantities for personal use.


Article 5. Baggage and articles which the students carry out of China for summer and winter vacations shall be dealt with respectively in accordance with "Customs Regulations of the People's Republic of China Governing Control over Baggage and Articles of Incoming and Outgoing Overseas Chinese" and "Customs Regulations of the People's Republic of China Governing Passengers' Baggage and Articles to and from Hong Kong and Macao".

If items carried out of China are any of the specified duty-free durables and are going to be carried back to China, they shall be declared and registered in the Books while leaving.


Article 6. Parcel received by the students shall be handled in accordance with "Customs Regulations Of The People's Republic Of China Governing Supervision And Control Over Inward And Outward Postal Articles" and "Customs Regulations Of The People's Republic Of China Governing Supervision And Control Over Personal Postal Articles Sent To Or From Hong Kong And Macao" respectively.


Article 7. After finishing studies in China, given in reasonable quantity, the articles and luggage shall be allowed without tax.


Article 8. This Regulations shall apply to students from Taiwan and overseas Chinese.


Article 9. This Regulations shall come into force as of August 20, 1984.
