We have received your Request for Instructions on Business Tax Exemption Concerning Some Insurance Products Provided by American International Assurance Co., Ltd., Beijing Branch (No. 45 (2004) of Beijing Local Taxation Bureau). Hereby we give you a reply as follows:

According to the Notice of the Ministry of Finance and State Administration of Taxation on Operating Tax Exemption for Several Items (No. 002 [1994] of the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation) and the Notice of the Ministry of Finance and State Administration of Taxation Concerning Several Issues on Operating Tax Exemption for Life Insurance Business (No. 118 [2001] of the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation), we, upon examination, agree to exempt American International Assurance Co., Ltd., Beijing Branch, from the business tax on the premiums of the following life insurance products that have a term of over one year and return principal and interest due.
