In order to satisfy the development of the Internet, we have partly adjusted the China Internet Domain Name System (adding the category domain name ".MIL" under the top-level domain name "CN") in accordance with Article 6 of the Measures for the Administration of China Internet Domain Names. The adjusted China Internet Domain Name System is hereby promulgated and shall come into force as of March 1, 2006.

Annex:
CHINA INTERNET DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM

I. The domain names at all levels under the China Internet Domain Name System may be composed of letters (A-Z, a-z, capital letters and small letters have the same effect), numbers (0-9), hyphen (-) or Chinese characters, the domain names at each level shall be connected by a solid dot (.), and the Chinese domain names at each level shall be connected by a solid dot or Chinese full stop (o).

II. Aside from the top-level domain name "CN", 3 top-level domain names in Chinese, "China", "company" and "network" are set up in the China Internet Domain Name System.

III. Under the top-level domain name "CN", two kinds of English second-level domain names of "category domain name" and "administrative area domain name" are set up.

There are 7 "category domain names", including:
AC-applies to scientific and research institutions;
COM-applies to industrial, commercial and financial enterprises etc;
EDU-applies to Chinese educational institutions;
GOV-applies to Chinese government institutions;
MIL-applies to Chinese national defense institutions;
NET -applies to institutions providing Internet services; and
ORG-applies to non-profit organizations.

There are 34 "administrative area domain names" applying to the organizations of the provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions, namely:
BJ-Beijing Municipality;
SH-Shanghai Municipality;
TJ -Tianjin Municipality;
CQ-Chongqing Municipality;
HE-Hebei Province;
SX-Shanxi Province;
NM-Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region;
LN-Liaoning Province;
JL-Jilin Province;
HL-Heilongjiang Province,
JS-Jiangsu Province;
ZJ-Zhejiang Province;
AH-Anhui Province;
FJ-Fujian Province;
JX-Jiangxi Province;
SD-Shangdong Province;
HA-Henan Province;
HB-Hubei Province;
HN-Hunan Province;
GD-Guangdong Province;
GX-Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region;
HI-Hainan Province;
SC-Sichuan Province;
GZ-Guizhou Province;
YN-Yunan Province;
XZ-Tibet Autonomous Region;
SN-Shannxi Province;
GS-Gansu Province;
QH-Qinghai Province;
NX-Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region;
XJ-Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region;
TW-Taiwan Province;
HK-Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
MO-Macao Special Administrative Region.

IV. Second-level domain names may be applied for registration directly under the top-level domain names.

V. No organization or individual may interfere with the normal operation of the Internet domain name system within the territory of China by any means.
