It was decided at the Twelfth Session of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress that: in accordance with Article 30 of the "Amendment to the Constitution of the People's republic of China", the term of an elected delegate to the people's congress of a township, nationality township or town is changed from three years into five years. The standing committee of the people's congress of each province, autonomous region, or municipality directly under the Central Government may, on the basis of the specific situation of its own jurisdiction, and in light of the principle of holding re-elections of delegates to the people's congresses at the county and township levels simultaneously, arrange the re-elections of delegates to the people's congresses at the county and township levels within its own jurisdiction during the period from July 1, 2006 to December 31, 2007.
