	NOTICE OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH CONCERNING CLASSIFYING THE CONTAGIOUS SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME AS STATUTORY CONTROLLED CONTAGIOUS DISEASE

According to the Meeting of the State Council, in order to strengthen the prevention and control of the contagious severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), after discussion, it is decided to list SARS as a statutory controlled contagious disease that shall be controlled in compliance with the Contagious Disease Prevention Law of the PRC. It is hereby to notify the pertinent issues as follows:

I. All places shall strengthen the monitoring and report of SARS, the medical institutions at all levels shall keep close attention to the persons who come to see a doctor. If you find patients or doubtful patients, you shall make careful examinations, take timely control measures and report the epidemic situation according to the relevant provisions.

II. You shall treat the diagnosed patients and doubtful patients of SARS separately, carry out epidemiological investigations and observations into the persons who have ever had contacts with them and may take mandatory control measures where it is necessary.

III. Considering that SARS is highly contagious, relevant control measures may be executed in accordance with Article 24 (1) of the Contagious Disease Prevention Law of the PRC.

IV. The health departments of all places shall strengthen their communication with the departments of education, public securities, railway, traffic, agriculture, quarantine and civil aviation, cooperate with them, carry out prevention task in accordance with the law.

V. At present, the contagious situation of SARS shall be daily reported, relevant requirements and content can be seen in the attachment - Patients or Suspected Patients of Contagious Atypical Pneumonia (or SARS) Report Form.
